Hillsdale College – Concentrated Studies
Supply Side Economics and American Prosperity
In this course, Abby studied how trade, fiscal responsibility, taxes, and more effect every American equally, in addition to what the government’s tried that increased American wealth and abundance and what the government’s tried that hasn’t worked at all and caused every American to suffer.
To summarize: When the average American has no idea that the government is influencing something in their lives, that usually means that that something is flourishing within the private sector under low taxes and few regulations.
Marxism, Socialism, and Communism
In this course, Abby studied how Marx and Engels founded the social theory that led to the rise of the communist Soviet Union under Lenin and Stalin and the deaths of tens of millions through gulags, starvation, and tyranny; and the rise of Mao and the deaths of hundreds of millions through the more heavily applied theory in gulags, starvation, distrust, betrayal, and tyranny.
To Summarize: Socialism and Communism, boiled down, is that you were not, are not, and will never be responsible for your lifestyle or prosperity because you are being oppressed by someone better off than you, and anyone who believes differently is a brainwashed peon of your oppressor and also your oppressor. Thus, the only way to fix society is by eradicating completely the practice of private property, religion, and family.
Here’s a fascinating quote by Karl Marx, written in the Editorial of ‘Neue Rheinische Zeitung’ in 1849, “We have no compassion and we ask no compassion from you. When our turn comes, we shall not make excuses for the terror.”
Public Policy from a Constitutional Viewpoint
In this course, Abby studied how gradual and increased implementation of federal regulations and the unaccountable bureaucracy of a “fourth branch of government” have brought America away from Constitutional foundations. This has resulted in federal intrusion into States’ affairs and citizens’ lives.
To Summarize: The best way to restore the Founding Father’s vision of a limited democratic republic is to remove regulatory bloat, write laws clearly and succinctly, and allow citizens to self-govern.
Understanding Capitalism
In this course, Abby studied the benefits of an economy based on capitalism, in that individuals calculate risk, identify openings in the free market, and provide services or goods to fill that opening and/or need. With minimum government intervention at the State or Federal level beyond enforcing laws that uphold contracts and preventing the infringement of Americans’ rights, capitalism is one of the most viable economic systems for people to find prosperity.
To Summarize: The Great Expansion started in the early 1800s with the establishment of capitalism in America. Since then, people worldwide have seen a skyrocketing increase in average wages, comfort of living, life expectancy, and children.
Constitution 101: The Meaning and History
In this course, Abby studied the background of the US Constitution, why the Founding Fathers wrote the Constitution they way they did, what failed to make it into the Constitution, and why the Constitution is a living document in that Original Intent still holds true today..
Totalitarian Novels
In this course, Abby studied the dystopian themes of classical novels such as “1984,” “Brave New World,” and “Darkness at Noon.”
To Summarize: When you give government too much power, the government will dictate every facet of your life until you are happy in slavery.
