Concern:
In talking with residents, I found that many don’t know what’s happening in our municipal government and that it’s difficult to locate information about how Commissioners have voted on issues. As the Board of Commissioners Seat Vacancy made apparent, there was little public trust in the nomination process. Residents may speak in Public Comment against an issue and walk away feeling unheard.
Let’s talk about it.
When residents have difficulty discerning where their elected representatives stand on the issues, it can breed malcontent and confusion that hurts the working relationship between Commissioners and Residents.
My Solutions:
1. I will work with Town staff to create a new spreadsheet or table on the Town’s webpage for the Board of Commissioners. This spreadsheet will detail current and former commissioners’ votes for easy viewing at a glance.
2. I will endeavor to improve public awareness of all Town outreach, surveys, programs, bond referendums, changes to the UDO, and more.
3. I will work to bring back video format submissions for Public Comment during Board of Commissioner meetings. I spoke my opposition to Public Comment restriction on October 21, 2025.
4. As of November 2025 in accordance with the new Public Comment policy, electronic media must be submitted by 3:00 PM the Friday before the meeting, but the Agenda announcements are only issued around Thursday. Therefore, I will work with Town staff so that agenda announcements are issued at least 1 week before the meeting, to give residents a reasonable amount of time to formulate, refine, and submit electronic media.
